As the bus veers onto the narrow bitumen road, Finn turns up her music, blocking out the noise so she can take her in new surroundings.
Around them, spidery-lush ferns huddle on the banks, while trees battle for space in the sky above. Willa lingers a moment so she can take it in. She thinks of her grandmother, who never wanted to go anywhere. Never wanted to travel. Never really left the state. Willa thinks of all the things she hasn’t gotten to know because of it. All the places she’s never seen. Beautiful, secret places like this, Places that give Willa a soft ache. Willa wants to discover each and every one of them.
